The Kim Research Group is dedicated to finding engineering solutions that satisfy three key factors, called the '3S: Sustainability, Smart, and Scalability'. The group focuses on a mathematical model-based approach utilizing advanced and classical computational techniques and tools to achieve these three goals.

Modeling as Creative Thinking
According to Sparks of Genius (생각의 탄생), modeling serves as one of thirteen creative thinking tools. We embrace this view: rigorous mathematical modeling is not merely a technical exercise, but a creative act of translating physical reality into actionable insight.
Beyond Modeling
Beyond modeling itself, we systematically cultivate the wider set of these creative thinking tools. Grounded in the solid fundamentals of chemical engineering (thermodynamics, kinetics, transport phenomena, reaction engineering, numerical methods, and AI-related methods), we lean especially on abstraction (3), analogy (6), and dimensional thinking (9). This is how we cross disciplinary boundaries and create ideas that no single field could reach on its own.
